Dear Council 75 Member,
I want to thank all of you who came out to phone bank or canvass during this past election cycle. Oregon AFSCME stepped up in reaching out to our members and voters throughout the state.
We live in a state that has made significant progress, and we will continue that fight. We have elected a House that will continue fighting for our rights, we will have a majority in the Senate which will continue pushing for greater gains for our members and neighbors, and we have a Governor that is dedicated to improving the lives of all Oregonians. We also have a staff and membership that will rise to the challenges we as a nation, a movement, a Council, and our Locals will see in the coming days, weeks, and months.
The results of our national election are clear and we will have a new administration, with significantly different opinions and beliefs about the importance of strong unions. These differences will almost certainly present challenges. But I want to assure you that just as you go to your job every day and provide vital services to our state’s residents, AFSCME too will continue to provide the best representation in this great state and we will continue to fight to make Oregon a better place for everyone.
The work we do now is now more pressing and important than ever. Our country is at a cross roads and we must build a broad working-class movement to stand up to the attacks coming. In the days and weeks ahead our union will be engaging with our members, allies, and partners to develop a strategy to hold the line on the progress we have made and forge a path forward that protects workers and communities across our state and nation.
Thank you for your dedication to our union and for the services you provide our fellow Oregonians.
For Our Union,
Michael Seville
