Preparations are underway for the upcoming contract fight that kicks off sometime in December or early January. The leaders of AFSCME Central Table, AFSCME Security & AFSCME Security Plus and AFSCME Parole & Probation were invited and have already met for the first of several bargaining conferences getting ready for the upcoming battle. One of the necessary steps in any contract fight is gathering input from the membership on economic priorities or goals. Your leaders will be developing a preliminary economic survey which we strongly encourage you all to participate. Additional surveys will be developed specifically for the AFSCME Security and Security Plus units on other language and bargaining topics in the coming months. Filling out surveys allows your bargaining team to get important feedback on the majority opinions of the membership. That information is used to generate our opening proposals and help set priorities throughout this process.
It may sound cliché but it is absolutely true that your participation is absolutely needed in these early preparations and in any future actions that will take place to support your team. Each and every one of you is an important piece of the puzzle that makes up our union. Our strength at the bargaining table can only be realized when we all are standing united and when individual members are willing to do their part in making this a successful contract campaign.
